Lewis Hamilton gets season back on track with pole for Spanish GP

No problems this time. With a flash of spellbinding speed and punch of the air Lewis Hamilton got his season back on track with a superb pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix.

After a spate of problems so far this season, trailing team-mate Nico Rosberg by 43 points, Hamilton needed this, and badly. Rosberg could never match his old adversary in the closing stages, missing out by 0.3 seconds.

Behind Mercedes surprisingly it was Red Bull who presented the closest challenge. Max Verstappen, the 18-year-old promoted from Toro Rosso for this race, was hugely impressive throughout, but Daniel Ricciardo asserted his authority at the death. They were third and fourth, relegating the Ferraris of Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel into a disappointing fifth and sixth.
