Mint Wireless inks mobile payments deal with Bendigo Bank
Mobile payments technology firm Mint Wireless will offer a chip and PIN-based mobile payments solution to merchants after signing a wholesale agreement with Bendigo Bank.
The ASX-listed company counts Amalgamated Pest Control and Europe’s easyJet Airline among its customers.
The new agreement will allow it to offer a mobile payments solution that works with all payment card types, including credit, debit and eftpos.
“Merchants are looking for a payment solution that utilises a mobile phone, as opposed to traditional eftpos terminals,” Mint chief executive officer Alex Teoh said in a statement.
The move comes as PayPal steps up its efforts targeting offline retailers. Last week the payments giant signed deals with hospitality companies EatNow and OrderMate, allowing customers to order and pay for food using the PayPal mobile application.
Bendigo Bank itself is also piloting a payments and loyalty scheme called ‘redy’ which will allow users to make payments and earn cash rewards using a mobile device.
