In the fiendishly complicated world of Formula One, it can be hard to apportion responsibility for a poor getaway. The driver blames the team. The team does not want to blame the driver publicly, but may do behind closed doors. No-one is any the wiser as to where the fault lies. Whatever the precise cause, starts have been a major problem for Lewis Hamilton. They have cost him wins in Australia, Bahrain and Italy. He was lucky to recover from a suspect start in Montreal. So far this year Hamilton has converted just three pole positions into victories this year, to Rosberg’s five. It is a statistic which could haunt him come the end of the year.
