‘Nebuta’ floats themed on 7 gods of fortune on show in Aomori
MISAWA, Aomori Prefecture--“Nebuta” floats modeled after the seven gods of fortune are now on display at the Hoshino Resorts Aomoriya hotel here in the hope that Lady Luck will shine on visitors.
They were created by Ryusei Uchiyama, 60, a master nebuta artisan who has many awards under his belt, and his disciple Ryuho Tatsuta, 37, to bring good and overcome the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Each float is about 2 meters tall and 2.5 meters wide.
Regular nebuta figures appear dynamic and powerful, but the special floats were crafted to appear soft and gentle because they are deities of luck, the artisan said.
When the seven floats were unveiled on Dec. 1, Uchiyama added the finishing touches on the last one.
“I devised ways for their luck-bringing expressions and poses,” he said.
“They look so spectacular,” said a woman from Tokyo sporting a smile. “Now I want to see the real nebuta, too.”
The floats will be on display until April 2.
