ispONE restructures in midst of Telstra fight

Troubled Telstra wholesaler ispONE has registered a new business name as part of a company rebrand it says will “secure its ongoing service offering” and “protect its wholesale partners”.

ispONE restructures in midst of Telstra fight

ispONE is in the midst of a battle with Telstra over $12 million in unpaid bills which could see Telstra services to the wholesaler and its client Kogan terminated.

ispONE and Telstra were to go back to court today after the Victorian Federal Court yesterday granted an injunction to prevent the telco from cutting the supply of prepaid mobile services to the wholesaler.

ispONE agreed to pay $300,000 to the court to ensure Telstra continued providing the service until 4pm today.

The pair are currently locked in mediation, with a scheduled hearing time of 2.15pm stood over indefinitely while mediation continues.

In the meantime, ispONE appears to be attempting to secure its future in the industry by operating under a new business name.

It today announced to its customers it would now be known as ‘iboss international” - a business ispONE managing director Zac Swindells registered in December last year.

Swindells is similarly registered as the director of iboss, according to documents lodged to ASIC, with the new company located in the same Collins St, Melbourne address as ispONE.

The company said it had been working on the rebrand and restructure for the last 18 months, as first reported by EFTM.

But it appears not much has changed with the new name - iboss will offer the same products and the same staff team “behind the scenes”.

An ispONE spokesperson confirmed the restructure but declined to provide detail. She said it was not related to any of the current legal issues the ISP was facing.

The new name shares the moniker of ispONE's integrated billing operational support system, iBOSS.

The battle with Telstra is the second in two high-profile legal fights the ISP has been forced to face this year alone.

Just two months ago the company was taken to court by Kogan Mobile after it suspended and blocked users on the network over several months with no explanation, for what it said was overuse.

ispONE lost that battle and was forced to stop suspensing Kogan Mobile customers without its partners’ approval, and pay Kogan’s court costs and any incurred losses.

Kogan this week weighed into the fight between ispONE and Telstra, sending out a mass communication to its user base and urging customers to contact Telstra directly.

“You may also wish to .. ask Telstra what it intends to do in respect of its wholesale prepaid mobile business and customers’ mobile telephone services if it achieves its goal of terminating its contractual arrangements with ispONE.”
